Isleworth School

Isleworth School is based in the suburb of Bishopdale, northwest Christchurch. We cater for children from Year 1 to Year 6, our year 6 leavers generally enroll at our neighbouring school, Breens Intermediate.

Although we have a growing roll we do not yet have a zone, this is because we reap the legacy of the permanent buildings left from the days when Isleworth was the first school in the area and catered for over 1000 pupils.

The school has spacious, tree lined grounds and adjoins Grant Armstrong Park which is used for sporting activities such as Cross Country.

Our values programme is at the centre of all we do at Isleworth. Our 4 core values of Respect, Responsibility, Caring and Honesty underpin everything which happens at our school. Visitors frequently remark on how evident these values are in our school culture.

Teachers deliver high quality, well planned learning which is based upon identifying each childs learning needs through thorough analysis of assessment data. Our teachers continually reflect on their teaching and our extensive professional development programme ensures that we use best practice identified in research as making a difference for learners. Our school has become recognized for the quality of its teaching programmes and as a result we frequently host interested teachers and principals from other schools.

Our learning programmes place an emphasis on the foundation areas of literacy and numeracy. Children are encouraged to learn about Science, Technology and Social Studies through an inquiry learning model which develops the skills and strategies needed by 21st century learners in order to enable them to find, sort, evaluate and use the wealth of information available both in on-line and book resources.

Creativity is valued at our school and reflected in our strong art and music programmes.

Our mission statement is:

Inspiring Students to Learn and Grow together,

This reflects our philosophy that learning is a 3 way process between the student, home and school. Children are encouraged to share in the learning by discussing learning out comes and the success criteria by which they can measure their progress. Student lead conferences twice a year provide opportunities for children to discuss their learning and progress with parents and teacher.

What makes us special ?
