ISLEWORTH SCHOOL - BOARD OF TRUSTEES

Why do we have a Board?
All New Zealand state and state-integrated schools are required to have a Board of Trustees under the New Zealand Education Act.

What does the Board do?
Essentially the Board governs the school whilst the Principal manages the day to day running of the school. The Board is the Crown entity responsible for the governance of the school. The Board is responsible for setting the strategic direction of the school, overseeing the management of personnel, property, finance and administration. It is the Board's responsibility to deal with employment matters referred to them by the Principal as well as ensuring the school communicates effectively with the community.

Where and when do they meet?
Meetings are held once a month on a Monday evening at 7:00pm in the staffroom. Meeting dates are posted fortnightly in the school newsletter.

Where can I find a copy of the minutes?
A copy of the minutes are posted on the school noticeboard in the administration block.

What should I do if I have a concern or issue I would like to see addressed?
First speak to the relevant staff member, and then the Principal, before reaching Board level.

Can I attend a meeting?
Members of the school community are welcome to attend and observe at any Board meeting.

Who is on the Board?
The Board of Trustees is made up of five parent representatives, one staff representative and the Principal. This small group of people do a lot of work behind the scenes to ensure Isleworth School is run according to legislation and at its fullest potential.

Paula Jones
Family: My name is Paula Jones. I have a daughter, Toyah, who is a year 4 in Room 1. My eldest daughter Tegan was a Year 6 last year and is now at Breens. We've found Isleworth a fantastic school. \I am also on the PTA. I'm interested in helping the staff with the governance of the school, to make their jobs as stress free as possible and continue the improvements that have led to the extremely favourable ERO review. I want the best environment possible for the children at Isleworth.
While currently a domestic goddess,my background is in library management and information design. I was on the committee at the Bishopdale Preschool for 4 years and think that I would be a useful addition to the board.

Lance Peters
Family: My name is Lance Peters, I am a 49 year old self employed importer and National Sales Manager for a Direct Marketing company. I attended Isleworth School myself some 40 years ago. My son Dylan is in year 5. I have coached the school hockey teams in 2009 and again this year. With sport being a viable career option now and the number of schools offering sports scholarships, I feel there needs to be more of an emphasis on competitive sport at primary school level. There is a wealth of sporting talent at Isleworth and I would like to help progress some of the kids into sport as a career. Isleworth is a great school and the teachers and staff do an awesome job

Nick Rongokea
Family: I am a Corrections Officer at Christchurch Men's Prison and am currently posted to Youth Unit. I enjoy most sports and have played at representative level in a number of sports and have played for the New Zealand Defence Force which went to Australia and the UK. I spent a number of years in the Army and went to many different countries making a whole heap of great mates. As time has gone on I have slowed down and turned my attention to my two children Tiana who is 8 and Kobe 6. I am fortunate to be a shift worker which allows me to be able to spend a lot of time at home and share in home activities. With my children at Isleworth School, being on the board gives me a chance to have an input in my children's development.
